Mr. Witchey will present two, three-hour seminars. He will be demonstrating techniques for producing emotionally powerful fiction. He'll present skills that seminar participants can take home and practice immediately. The seminars will include a demonstration of brainstorming, content organization, theme exploitation, revision, and polishing. He will also discuss techniques for marketing both fiction and non-fiction as a freelancer. Finally, he will discuss the rapid changes taking place in the publishing industry.
Eugene Reads: Creative Collaboration
Eugene Reads presents an evening panel seminar in which Author, Illustrator, and Artist Alan M. Clark and Award-winning writer Eric M. Witchey discuss differences and similarities in creative process. Mr. Witchey and Mr. Clark have collaborated on a number of projects over the years, and they have unique insights into how the background of each contributes to the creativity of the other.
The Eugene Reads program is sponsored by the Eugene Public Library, and the seminar will be held in the main library. The Eugene Reads recommended book is Fahrenheit 451. Mr. Clark has been commissioned to provide the artwork for the Eugene Reads effort for 2012. He has worked on art for Ray Bradbury stories in the past. Mr. Witchey enjoyed brief correspondence with and encouragement from Mr. Bradbury, and both consider Fahrenheit 451 an important work on both a personal and cultural level.
